Counting guest rooms before you reserve small inn getaways from Baltimore
Small inn getaways from Baltimore are easiest to choose by size, so the list runs by guest rooms, fewest first. A room is one place at the breakfast table, and the count tells you how many other guests share the morning. This page shows how each count was made and how the drawing follows from it.
Rooms per inn, with sources and miles
| Town | Guest rooms | Where the count comes from | Table | Road from Towson |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Frostburg, Maryland | 4 | the inn's own room list, four rooms by name | A small table: four to six rooms | 152 miles, about 2 h 56 min |
| Sharpsburg, Maryland | 5 | the inn's own home page and room list, five rooms | A small table: four to six rooms | 75 miles, about 1 h 37 min |
| Strasburg, Pennsylvania | 6 | the inn's own home page and room list, six rooms | A small table: four to six rooms | 58 miles, about 1 h 40 min |
| Solomons, Maryland | 7 | the inn's own room page, five in the house and two in the carriage house | A longer table: seven to eleven rooms | 93 miles, about 2 h 18 min |
| Gettysburg, Pennsylvania | 9 | the inn's own room page, one room on the first floor and four on each floor above | A longer table: seven to eleven rooms | 54 miles, about 1 h 27 min |
| Upper Black Eddy, Pennsylvania | 11 | the inn's own room chart, eleven rooms inside the inn | A longer table: seven to eleven rooms | 144 miles, about 3 h 16 min |
Which rooms go into each count
A guest room is a room the inn reserves to guests. Two rooms in a carriage house at Solomons are counted, and so is one room in a separate summer kitchen at Sharpsburg, because the inn reserves each of them to guests like any other room. A separate one-bedroom building at Upper Black Eddy is left out, since it is a whole building offered as a unit, not a room at the table.
Where the counts come from
Each count comes from the inn's own room list, read on Nov 4, 2026. Each count was then checked against a second source, such as the inn's reservation calendar or a public visitor guide; where a guide counted only the main house, the inn's own list was used. If an inn changes its rooms later, the quote from the office states the rooms actually free for your nights.
How the drawing works
The drawing lays one plate for each room, with settings along both long sides of the table, so a table of four shows two on a side and a table of eleven shows six on one side and five on the other. The eleven-setting table is dashed and set behind the others, which lets the largest table show beside the smaller ones.
The drawing is a way of counting rooms rather than a seating plan: at Sharpsburg guests sit at separate small tables, and at Solomons breakfast is laid on an enclosed porch.
Mountains, battlefields, farmland and water
Frostburg is a mountain college town. Sharpsburg and Gettysburg are Civil War villages, with the battlefield close at hand. Strasburg sits in Lancaster farmland, Solomons on a Chesapeake harbor island, and Upper Black Eddy is a canal village on the Delaware River. Three towns are in Maryland and three in Pennsylvania, each reached by road from Towson within about three and a half hours, so a two-night midweek stay fits.
